Blues...blues is everywhere man. Just walk down the downtown street of any U. S. city. If you play guitar and love the blues, you are in luck. There has never been a better time to play the blues. And do not pay any attention to the new class of music snobs that are judging whether or not you are a blues artist. Most can not play and there is nothing worse than a musician who thinks his stuff don't stink because of what he plays. All kinds of haters every where. Good news is, mostly they are what we sing about, haters.
The door of opportunity in the blues music business is wide open, You used to have to kick the sucker down and hope someone nice was on the other side. But in today's wonderful world of communication the door is not only wide open, it is letting all kinds of creatures in. If you are a band, musician or songwriter the time is now. Never before in the history of blues music has there been a time like this. You are truly living in a timeline that will set the watermark in the music industry. Years from now musicians will look back on this opportunistic time like the dot com era of a few years ago. You just have to put your hand out and grab that golden ring.
However, and there is always a however, you can not find that golden ring with blinders on. I think that most bands that I see these days are missing the opportunity. They are hoping still, even with all that is available, that they will be in the right place in the right time. They are hoping that someone will stumble upon their MySpace page and sign them to a five year five album deal. Probably not gonna happen. You need to give the world a reason to come to your website. And that is a website with a domain name and not a Myspace account.
So how do you go about doing that? Like I said the door is wide open. Almost anything you can think of with credibility will get it done. And that is how simple it is. The world will probably not beat a path to your door because of your music. They might, but the chances are slim. However the world would love to beat a path to your door if you are offering something that is helpful in the way of community service. And while they are there they just might discover your music. Door's open, who you inviting in?
