BRAND THE BAND - SAVE A DOG

Most young bands are confronted and usually overwhelmed by the prospect of marketing.  It gets very confusing and the wealth of information on the internet today may cause anxiety as the reality of the monetary commitment sets in.  However there is hope.  The world needs music and getting that music to the potential fan can be done if you just think a little different than the way everyone else is thinking.
First you have to have a couple of things in place.  You have to have some good music recorded on CDs.  You have to have a good website.  You have to have an auto responder in place to capture and respond to emails.  This is really not as hard as it seems.
Once this is done examine what it is you are trying to do.  Simply put you should not be trying to sell your music only.  You should be trying to build relationships with your fans.  The fan base is the key to this marketing strategy.  Any thing you do should be to acquire an email address from a prospective fan.  You are not going to spam them to death, but you are going to use proper communication techniques to involve them in your enterprise.
Here is one idea.  Go to your local animal shelter.  Tell them you are going to dedicate one page of your website entirely to the adoption of pets.  Ask them if they could take a digital photo of some animals weekly and send them by email to you.  Posts these on your dedicated web page.  Have an email opt-in for the visitor asking if they would like to subscribe to the local shelter's newsletter.  You will be collecting these email addresses in your own base also.  Anytime you can take credit in helping in the adoption of a pet, get to the shelter and use the event as a photo opportunity and post that on your web site.  Next go to the blogs of animal lovers and become an avid campaigner for the adoption, neutering and spaying of animals.  These people will visit your site, become fans and support your music also.
This is just one idea.  Think of the endless avenues.  Think of all the organizations that would love to have your support.  Becoming active in your community sets you apart from other bands.  You will make a difference in the community and this is what branding is all about, not logos or t-shirts and hats.
Good Luck,
Roy Boy
